Lead Faculty Members of AIG program Recognized Nationally for Contributions to the Field

Lead faculty members, Drs. Michael S. Matthews and Cindy M. Gilson were both recognized for excellence and contributions to the field of gifted and talented learning in 2020. Dr. Matthews is the Program Director for the M.Ed. in Special Education concentration in Academically or Intellectually Gifted. Dr. Gilson is the Program Director for the Graduate Certificate in Academically or Intellectually Gifted and Co-Director of the Education Honors Program.

Student Spotlight: Elisha Rearick

Elisha Rearick is a current student in the M.Ed. in Special Education and Child Development concentration in Academically or Intellectually Gifted program. Currently a talent development teacher in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, she works with gifted and advanced students and their teachers to help provide challenging content for students at a Title I school.

With a passion for gamification and game-based learning, Jasmine Rezapour Bishop works her way through her master's in Learning, Design and Technology and is accepted into the doctoral program. She hopes to help shape the way students are instructed to foster a better understanding of concepts through new methodology.

Dr. Florence Martin is a champion for online learning. She is a professor and program coordinator for our Ed.D. concentration in Learning, Design and Technology (LDT) program, program director for our PCER in University and College Teaching and has been with the University for six years. She is passionate about her students and the role education plays in their lives. “I believe that ‘to teach is to touch and change a life forever,’” she said.
